Mary Ann Jacob, MD, FAAP

Dr. Jacob spent her early years on farms near the Great Lakes. She loved detective stories, and it turns out that medicine often involves mysteries, so it was a great match for her! She was a National Merit Scholar and studied biology (with a minor in philosophy) at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She then went on to the Medical College of Ohio for medical school and pediatric residency.
While her children were small, she worked part time in many settings, including teaching medical students, covering for a rural pediatrician on weekends, working at a neighborhood health center in an under served area, and working in a small private practice.
In 1993, after an Alaskan vacation, she and her husband agreed there was no place else they would rather raise their sons. She maintained a solo practice for over two decades, and also worked in the hospital and in Medical Staff leadership positions. With grandchildren now out-of-state, working as part of a group (allowing for opportunities to travel more) was too appealing to resist . She is really enjoying the camaraderie of the congenial folks at TCC.
Dr. Jacob enjoys time with friends and family, bicycling, music, snowshoeing, reading mysteries and biographies, and traveling. She still chokes up every time she hears the “Alaska Flag Song”
