Mumps Outbreak in Anchorage

as of 11/17/2017

As of this week, there have been 56 confirmed and probable cases of mumps in Anchorage. Please read the following recommendations to protect yourself and your child against this disease:
* Check to see if your child is up-to-date on his/her MMR vaccination.
* For persons who participate in a group setting (eg. school, daycare, work, church, sports team) where mumps is currently circulating, OR for those who are Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander:

1) A second dose of MMR is recommended for persons with only one dose of MMR (administered at least 4 weeks after the first dose).
2) A third dose of MMR is recommended if the person had a second dose that was administered more than 4 years ago.

Please call us at 562-2944 if you have any questions about whether your child should receive another dose of MMR. Also, please call us to see how to best protect your child if you are traveling over the holidays.

As always, if your child is a patient at our office, feel free to walk-in to have your child vaccinated. The best times to come are: Monday-Friday 8:00am-7:30pm (avoiding 12:00-1:00pm), Saturday 8:30-11:30am, and Sunday 11:00am-2:30pm.
